Don't Let the Secret Out Virtual Book Tour

Jessamine rose offers readers a glimpse into her life in this her memoir, Don’t Let The Secret Out. She was born in 1937, in a small town in eastern Kentucky. For many her upbringing will seem foreign but for some it will sound all too familiar.

About Don’t Let the Secret Out

The family’s cabin was cold, the cracks in the floor made it impossible to heat. The bathroom was an outhouse. Her father often beat her mother. Her father shot her mother to scare her. At one point the family lived under a cliff. In the hills of eastern Kentucky “you could shoot a dog and spend a year in jail, shoot a man and nothing.” She faced sexual abuse, beatings, neglect and yet rose above it all. She was a mere 6 years old the first time she was raped. Her mother gave away her young brother and sister. Jassamine made her escape in the back of an ice truck, she was less than 14. She ended up living in a park in Ohio.

Her teen years weren’t much better suffering at the hands of authority. Her life finally changed for the better when she met the love of her life and life began anew.  Jessamine searches for her family and tries to reconcile her past memories with those who had wronged her. Jessamine faced many hardships in her life. Yet her memoir is upbeat, despite her childhood beginnings.

Thank you for this interview, Jessamine.  Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later?  Do you remember your first published piece?

A:  I made up stories and told them to my sister and brother. Always wonted to write, but didn’t think I was smart enough to write a book. My first book published it DON’T LET THE SECRET OUT, I am so very proud of it.  You can do what ever you set your mind to, always have a dream, I did.

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

A: Becoming an author has saved me in many ways. Every one will see why when they read my book.

Are you married or single and how do you combine the writing life with home life?  Do you have support?

A: I am married and it was sometimes difficult when everyone need my help, but this is life and the sacrifice we make when we become wife and mother mom. Yes I have support.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing?  Where do you like to vacation?  Can you tell us briefly about this?

A: When you are 73 writing and looking at the birds and roses is fun.

If you could be anywhere in the world for one hour right now, where would that place be and why?

A: Jerusalem, o how I would love to go there.

Who is your biggest fan?

A: I have so many fans that it’ hard to pick just one person, but guess I would have to say husband.

Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

A: By the window looking at the roses and the birds

Do you have any pets?

A: Beside Hubby yes 3 beautiful cats that I love dearly.

Tell us a secret no one else knows.

A: If I tell you then everyone will know laugh out loud. Haha!

What’s on your to do list today?

A: Finish these answers and take hubby to the Dr.

Now I’ve got a couple of fun questions for you.  If Tom Hanks, in the movie Cast Away, unearthed a copy of your book, how would that help him find a way off the island?

A: Have a dream that nothing is impossible

You have a chance to appear on the hit talent show for authors, American Book Idol, with judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara Dioguardi and the newest addition, Ellen DeGeneres, to determine whether your book will make it to Hollywood and become a big screenplay where you’d make millions of dollars.  What would impress them more – your book cover, an excerpt or your author photo – and why?

A: My book cover, it says it all

You just got word that your book has received the 2010 NY Times Bestselling Book Award and you have to attend the ceremony to give an acceptance speech.  Anyone who’s anyone will be there and it’s your shot for stardom.  What would you say and who would you thank?

A: First I thank God for giving me the knowledge to write this best seller. Thank Rebecca. . . my Virtual Book Tour Coordinator for getting my book out there so people could read it. This journey of life has been amazing. No one walks alone. I thank all those that have joined me along the way. I am so thankful I was able to make this trip. All of you that I have meet along the way I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
