Pump Up Your Book Chats With Hank Quense

Author Hank Quense

Author Hank Quense

Award-winning author Hank Quense lives in Bergenfield, NJ with his wife Pat.  They have two daughters and five grandchildren.  He writes humorous fantasy and scifi stories.  On occasion, he also writes an article on fiction writing or book marketing but says that writing nonfiction is like work while writing fiction is fun.  A member of the Science Fiction Writers of America, he refuses to write serious genre fiction saying there is enough of that on the front page of any daily newspaper and on the evening TV news.

He has a number of links where you can follow his work and his occasional rants:

Thank you for this interview, Hank.  Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later?  Do you remember your first published piece?

Falstaff's Big Gamble

Falstaff's Big Gamble

A:  I used to write stories in High School but gave that up when I went to college.  I picked it up again around my 50th birthday

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

A: Marketing books.  Getting great reviews

Are you married or single and how do you combine the writing life with home life?  Do you have support?

A: Married.  Writing is just like having a job except the commute is very short and I don’t have a boss.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing?  Where do you like to vacation?  Can you tell us briefly about this?

A: Read, play Ipad games, agonize over the NY Giant football games. Vacation? Anywhere, but my wife and I tend to end up in Europe. We also go on cruises.

If you could be anywhere in the world for one hour right now, where would that place be and why?

Rome (Italy, not upstate New York) or maybe Paris or Barcelona.  It’s hard to choose when you only have an hour.  Wait, if I have only an hour, then it’s Barcelona if I can spend the time in a tapas bar.

Who is your biggest fan?

A:It’s hard  to choose when you only have two or three of them. I don’t want to annoy the ones I don’t pick.

Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

A: In a recliner chair with my Ipad

Do you have any pets?

A:Not now.  I’ve had a dog most of my life.  Our last one died a few years ago.

Tell us a secret no one else knows.

A: No way.  If I tell you  a secret then it isn’t a secret anymore, is it?

What’s on your to do list today?

A: Prep for a fiction writing lecture tonite in a local library, go to the gym, attend to email

I understand that you are touring with Pump Up Your Book Promotion in September and October via a virtual book tour.  Can you tell us all why you chose a virtual book tour to promote your book online?

A: It’s one of the few things I haven’t tried, so I’m giving blog tours a shot.

Thank you for this interview, Hank. Good luck on your virtual book tour!

A: Thanks
