Little Dragon Synopsis

This is the tale of a little Dragon who has a big problem, he cannot control his fire!

After a major mishap, he runs away into the forest and has a wonderful adventure where he meets new friends, learns that every creature has a unique gift, and also finds out the special way in which he can use his own remarkable gift of fire.

Thank you for this interview, Carolyn. Do you remember writing stories as a child or did the writing bug come later? Do you remember your first published piece?

A: I have always loved writing stories, I do remember writing stories as a small child, I had glitter paste and rubber ink stamps and I guess you could call it my very first attempt at fan fiction because, the pictures on the rubber ink stamps were Lois Lane and Superman. I had a ball making up adventure after adventure, writing stories and using those stamps and glitter to illustrate the storyline.

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

A: Finding a great publisher, someone who believes in you and your work is the most frustrating and the most rewarding part of being a published author. I had a few learning experiences before I found the perfect publisher for me.

I am so happy and grateful that I have found such a terrific publisher in Eric Patterson and Avid Readers Publishing Group.

Are you married or single and how do you combine the writing life with home life? Do you have support?

A: I am married, my husband Scott is a terrific and supportive guy. He reads my work and comments on it, and is a wonderful critic, honest but nice! He is always after me to get the word out about my books. Another great thing is that he works nights and I work at a part time job during the day,

so I have a lot of time in the evening after I get home from work to get down to my writing, and it does not interfere or interrupt our time together.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing? Where do you like to vacation? Can you tell us briefly about this?

A: For vacation- I love the beach. I lived in Lewes, Delaware for over two years and still have salt water running through my veins. For fun, my husband and I love to sing Karaoke with our friends at parties and on the town!

If you could be anywhere in the world for one hour right now, where would that place be and why?

A: England. I was born in England when my parents lived overseas, but we all moved back to the USA when I was still a baby. I am a complete Anglophile and my one visit to England in 1999, sold me on the place. I long to go back there for another visit.

Who is your biggest fan?

A: My Mom, she has been supportive from the very beginning, and was really

excited when this book got published!

Where’s your favorite place to write at home?

A: In my living room, my computer sits on my old wooden desk, which has a lot of character and lots of drawers for me to file my stories in.

Do you have any pets?

A: Yes, I have an elderly dog who I adopted late in his life, and he is my joy!

I also have several kitties running around the house, causing various kinds of mischief at any given time.

Tell us a secret no one else knows.

A: I am super shy about writing for kids, having not been one for some time.

When I worked as a Substitute teacher, I read a great deal of wonderful children’s books to my elementary school students.  As a writer who loves fantasy, I wanted to entertain kids, but as a teacher, I also wanted to incorporate a message that would be meaningful to them. So this story has a message about giving back to the community and overcoming personal challenges. I am hoping that this storyline pleases kids of all ages.

What’s on your to do list today?

A: To get as much writing done as possible and then maybe the housework…

Now I’ve got a couple of fun questions for you. If Tom Hanks, in the movie Cast Away, unearthed a copy of your book, how would that help him find a way off the island?

A: I think it would help him escape from the Island by getting his mind off his troubles for a while, and since it is all about finding out how to use your true gifts and overcoming challenges, it might inspire him to work harder to find a solution to get off the island or give him hope that he will someday make it home.

You just got word that your book has received the 2012 NY Times Bestselling Book Award and you have to attend the ceremony to give an acceptance speech. Anyone who’s anyone will be there and it’s your shot for stardom. What would you say and who would you thank?

A: I would say thank you to my Mother and my husband Scott for all their support. Then I would thank my wonderful illustrator and my Publisher for all their help! I would then say what an honor it was to be given such an awared! After that I think I would probably exit the stage  rather quickly, since I am not at all comfortable getting up in front of people.

I understand that you are touring with Pump Up Your Book Promotion in May 2012 via a virtual book tour. Can you tell us all why you chose a virtual book tour to promote your book online?

A: I was previously on tour with Pump Up Your Books for my other children’s book, and absolutely loved it! It is a great way to get the word out about your books. Also, I  practically live online and I know a lot of folks who do the same. I love visiting writer’s blogs,  listening to authors on blog radio  talk shows and socialize  online with many writers. I think it is a wonderful thing to have my book on tour with Pump Up Your Books and am very excited about it!

Thank you for this interview, Carolyn, Good luck on your virtual book tour!
