About Braxton A. Cosby

Braxton Cosby 2 Braxton A. Cosby is a dreamer with a vision of continuously evolving and maximizing the untapped potential of the human spirit. Braxton received a lot of his inspiration from watching the accomplishments and exploits of his famous uncle, comedic legend Bill Cosby. A physical therapist by background, Braxton received his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate from the University of Miami. Braxton’s fascination of science grew into an obsession of Sci-fi and on one unassuming Sunday, this self-proclaimed romantic decided to pursue a “calling” to create a new genre of writing; Sci-Fance- mixing science fiction and romance. Braxton lives in Georgia with his wife and two children. He believes that everyone should pursue joy that surpasses understanding and live each day as if it were the last.

About The Star-Crossed Saga: Protostar

Protostar It Starts With Choice! What would you choose: love or irrefutable duty?

On the brink of Civil War, the Torrian Alliance continues with its mission to obliterate Star-children across the universe in order to suppress an intergalactic evil. Following the recommendations of his Council, King Gregorio Derry has agreed to send his only son on a mission to restore honor to his family. Bounty Hunter Prince William Derry has crossed thousands of light-years to planet Earth, in order to fulfill this age old prophetic practice. The quiet days of Madisonburg, Tennessee are officially over as Sydney Elaine now knows the full meaning of the phrase Be careful what you wish for when she is confronted by this strange visitor. As an unforeseeable event delays his assassination, William decides to study his target more closely and begins to form a connection with Sydney that challenges his inner being. But this conflict is the least of his problems, as a conspiracy back on his home planet Fabricius threatens the lives of those he loves and his father s royal legacy. Along with that, he must unravel a hidden menace here on Earth that seeks to secure a vested interest that threatens both his and Sydney s safety. Will William be able to complete his mission or will he choose love, sacrificing everything he stands for?

Book Excerpt:

“There’s nobody special at this time. I mean, I used to have somebody, but he turned out to be a complete jerk. So I got rid of him and now I’m just waiting for the universe to open up and send me Mr. Right.” Sydney said, giggling out loud as she watched William’s confused expression.
“Who is Mr. Right?”
“You know how we girls are, no one in particular. Just that certain someone that comes in your life, sweeps you off your feet and takes you to a whole new level of living, another world.”
Now it was Sydney’s turn. “What about your personal life, anyone special waiting for you back home?” She asked with a bit of hesitation in her voice, faintly hoping for a specific answer.
“There is or was someone. But you can say that it wasn’t about Mrs. Right or anything like that. Perfect for many reasons, but not for the right reason.”
“What do you mean?”
The two of them stopped walking momentarily and faced each other.
“Have you ever been with someone, but they lacked that certain something that you felt was necessary to keep you alive? You can’t put your finger on it, but you know that if you are going to be with them forever, it has to exist.”
William looked passionately at Sydney.
“Yes. I have been there before, but I truly believe that there are no mistakes in love. Love is faithful, strong, and pure. Love is not proud or arrogant; it does not envy, doubt or cause pain. Sarah says that true love is harder to find than anything in the entire universe. One could travel across space and time, search each planet, star, and galaxy; and still never find that one true thing, love.”
“Beautiful!” William responded.
“It’s quite a frightening concept actually.” Sydney said as she resumed walking again.
Sydney and William continued their work surveying the rest of the buildings and structures on the list. They were both very grateful that nothing suffered considerable damage beyond simple repair. Confident that they had done a thorough job, they decided to grab something to eat after a long days work. Sydney volunteered to pay for William, figuring that everything he had was still with his friends back home. They made their way to a quaint Italian café that sat square in the middle of the library and the convenience store. It was a small intimate spot that many people flocked to during the late afternoon time. Friends, family, and even business partners frequented the location, making it the perfect spot for two people to get casually acquainted without the uncomfortable feeling of being on a date, especially if you sat outside. As they walked in the front door, they were met by a young waitress that was already checking out William from outside. She deliberately pulled two menus and asked how many were in the party, hopeful it would reveal that they were not together.
“Where can I seat you two lovebirds?”
“Oh, we are not together. Anywhere outside will do.” Sydney was quick to respond to the young ladies question, casting doubt on her interest in William. Although she studied him afterwards for any sign that he may have had other plans.
“Yes. It would be a shame to waste the beautiful day we have before us by staying inside.”
They ordered a round of sweet tea and dinner rolls as they perused the menu for something satisfying.
Sydney could not make up her mind. Looking down at her menu and then towards William she asked, “So what will you be having? Certainly, something here has to catch your eye.”
Suddenly and without reason William ripped himself from the table, took two steps away from Sydney, and then returned to her.
“Um, I’m really feeling sick right now. It must be some weird layover from the accident. I must be going. I’ll meet you back at the house. Please forgive me.”
Before Sydney could respond, William tore out of the café, jumping over the small gate surrounding the outside patio, leaving Sydney behind. All she could do was gaze at him in the distance, a feeling of disbelief poured upon her as his image disappeared into the horizon.
***
Once he made it safely to the outskirts of town where he was sure no one would see him, William increased his speed to a blistering pace. His skin began to glimmer in the sun, a shade of Titanium yellow. All at once, a brilliant array of lights burned similar to that of a plasma television all over his face, hands and arms; which were the visible parts of his body. Every inch of his body was covered with millions of small solar cells that absorbed energy from the sun and powered William to accelerate at speeds comparable to that of a cheetah, churning up the dusty ground beneath him. His face grimaced as if he was in pain, although he had suffered no noticeable injuries. His frantic one mile run finally brought him to the forest. He effortlessly negotiated the trees and brush, bobbing in and out careful not to harm himself. After his brief hike, he planted his right foot in mid-stride and catapulted up through the air breaking through the surrounding brush. His ship the Daedalus was there resting, still hidden from site. William reached along the outer hull, sliding his hands along the fore of the ship until he met the side where the pair of wings was located. Using both hands, he felt his way underneath the bottom one and depressed a series of buttons which opened the back door of the ship. William entered the vessel, irate over the recent circumstances that assaulted him, tormenting his mind. IMPI could see the anguish that was beset upon William’s face and quickly passed on asking him if he was followed or why he didn’t close the door upon entering, deciding to perform the later duty himself.
William screamed out loud to IMPI. “What is happening to me? I can’t stay here any longer. This is becoming unbearable.”
IMPI: “What do you mean William? I am not getting a clear understanding of your peril.”
“It’s difficult to explain. First, it’s the warmth; more than anything I ever felt before. It reminds me of my childhood; a time when the Red Giants Mira A and B burned bright, before beginning their time of decay. When I touched her earlier today, I wanted to do something, something more. I wanted to pull all of her closer and absorb everything that she was.”
